Microsoft have
announced they are releasing a wide range of critical security updates this
week.
The security patches cover some of Microsoft's core software products including
Windows.
We would suggest readers keep their systems up to date, especially when
large vendors such as Microsoft release critical updates.
Security vulnerability's can be identified at any time and in many
products. It is important that product vendors quickly identify these
vulnerability's and repair them in their software.
However all the patches, fixes, repairs are basically worthless unless the
user's software is actually updated.
Many products offer automatic updating where the software can check itself for
updates when online. This is probably the best option for novices.
Many products also offer the option of notifying of updates and allowing the
user to choose when to actually update. This is particularly handy if the
update process may consume computer resources.
One of the downside's to not automatically updating is that the update may be
delayed, allowing for vulnerability's to be exploited for often devious
purposes.
It's also worth mentioning that keeping Security software up to date is also
important. This advice refers mainly to the database used for detection of
malware problems, but naturally the software and other components should be kept as
current as possible.
