It seems many people
were duped by a scam on Facebook, based on Wholefoods Facebook
page.
This apparent scam was not done by
Wholefoods, but seemed to use Wholefoods reputation to perpetuate
the scam.
Wholefoods even posted a warning on their Facebook page
relating to the scam: Wholefoods Facebook Scam.
Users showing due diligence would of checked the veracity of the Wholefoods scam
offer, of gift cards, before falling victim to the scam. This warning
would of helped some from falling prey.
How to avoid such scams is
difficult. People should always be wary and sometimes checking with the
original website can help.
Also be careful how you interact with 'free' offers. How much information are
you handing over, what are you downloading.
Good security software can help, but due diligence is your front line
defense.
