It appears that a
scam using Ikea's name and Facebook may have duped users into believing they were
receiving an Ikea Gift card.
It is important to be clear that this would not be a scam by
Ikea nor by Facebook.
It seems that users may have been duped into this Ikea Facebook Giftcard scam by
signing up as a fan to a bogus page on Facebook.
The Ikea Facebook Scam may have been used for Identity theft, or even other
nefarious purposes.
Trusted companies, like Ikea, are also potential victims in such Giftcard
scams as trust may be eroded through a link to their brand.
Unfortunately their is often little a company can do to prevent such damage as
may be caused by this Ikea Giftcard scam.
However we believe it still prudent for us to warn users of the potential of
such scams, not just relating to using Ikea's name. A similar scam to this
Ikea Giftcard Scam may have effected Wholefoods on Facebook
recently.
How to avoid these scams is
difficult. Users should always be wary of generous offers and even checking
with the original website can help.
Be careful how you interact with offers and the amount of info you
supplying, what are you downloading.
Good security software can help, but due diligence is your front line defense.
to avoid such scams as this apparent Ikea Giftcard scam.
